There is a video on youtube that I just saw at 6am. It fully explains the feed issue and shows the fixes. It was one of the longer 10 min videos. Essentially the magazine well is angled and the mags have stops which fit that angle. sliding the mags front to rear would cause the mag to raise and lowe...

Whoops! I seldom log in here, just browse. I didn't realize before I posted that you already had photos up. The one I was referring to used a standard boring head.

I have always wanted to make one like that using a quick change tool post as the holder for easy on/off. How'd you do yours? I saw a photocopy of one from a book awhile back that also had positionable stops for repeatability. Would like to see some photos. -Mike

Nope. There really would be no way to do it if all parts weren't done on the same CNC machine.
Usually compression washers or peel washers are used to align the brake. When I am making brakes I thread the barrel abd screw the brake on for index before I machine the slots in the brake.

Glenn, measure your acme screw and the teeth on both bevel gears. Figure out the ratio on the gears. In the case of the BS grinder the ratio was 3:1. The leadscrew was 6.666 TPI. 1/6.666=.150"/3=.05" per revolution of the handwheel. Your leadscrew is likely 1"-10. which would give you...

I rebuilt a Boyer Shultz for a friend a year or so ago. The Z axis leadscrew was 6.66 pitch and the nut was completely shot. No parts are available and I can't cut a fractional pitched nut. I started looking at the geartrain and it was easy to see why the odd pitch where the bevel gears timed out. I...

If it were my money and I only had to choose between those two it would be the Griz. Variable speed in that size of saw is nothing to sneeze at. Plus they always have parts and accessories available that Enco won't.

I picked up an old Powermatic (143)? and like it alot. Craigslist ~ $200. -Mike

I sold the first one, which was mahogany. I inherited a large Mahogany Gerstner from my uncle a few years ago. I mentioned it to someone who told me Gerstner never made boxes in Mahogany. No matter how long I looked at it, it stayed mahogany! I never bought a Gerstner while I was in the trade. Shor...

Home built AR mods and Duracoat

This started out as just another simple project that snowballed into a great learning experience. Last winter I decided to try to machine a lower forging as my “winter project”. Little did I know that everything AR related had gotten either scarce or was priced out of this world. I finally located a...

Bill, yes that's a standard smallish Kennedy. They were also made in Ohio, somewhere north. You can still buy what's left of the Kennedy line from Enco and others. Kennedy went out of business a year or so ago and auctioned off everything in the warehouse. Machinist boxes came in two widths and seve...

Often times when I'm making a setup or measuring I'll grab the best item for the job be it a set of paralells, 123 blocks, cube, vise whatever and look at the name stamped on it. I never fail to think that that person would be proud that their home made tooling has stood the test of time. I inspecte...
