Re: Completed Locomotive Stand

Beautiful. I am with the drop out.suggestion. have one on my very ugly but functional stand that looks was created by the GEICO caveman in comparison. I also have drop in barriers on each end so that loco cannot roll off the end...C clamps also work, but if i want to roll back and forth a bit, the b...

Re: Railroad Warehouse 2.8.2 Mikado Logger Build

You really do not want a single groove along the length. You want a groove that, over its length covers the left to right of the surface, that is not open to trap grit. In reality, a diagonal groove on the shoe itself is enough...better in fact since it will never be open to direct dirt contaminatio...

Re: Railroad Warehouse 2.8.2 Mikado Logger Build

Are you going to put oil grooves on the surfaces to help maintain film?

Re: Railroad Warehouse 2.8.2 Mikado Logger Build

It is like a friend of mine who, when they first came out, purchased some $2000 worth (IIRC) of the "forever" postage stamps.

He recently sent me a package of live steam stuff PLASTERED with the stamps.

Think he said he paid $.040 for them.

Re: Railroad Warehouse 2.8.2 Mikado Logger Build

Same here....now, 40 years later, I am able to reach into a drawer and (usually) grab what I want.

If I can remember that I have it.

Thank God for Plano partition boxes.

Re: Auto rack

A search of 1/8 scale cars pops up many options.

Many of which are probably not in the price range.

Revell seems to have some, but you would have to build and paint..

Re: Railroad Warehouse 2.8.2 Mikado Logger Build

Sadly we do own a do all grinder, in the shop at the other end of the farm. Brother in law has not used it in 20 years but is not interested in allowing me to move it ..so it sits, no power, covered in dust...buried behind tons of farm detritus. Not worth starting Hatfields and McCoy fight over it...

Re: Railroad Warehouse 2.8.2 Mikado Logger Build

Nah ...in our scales, the loco would just tip over when the rod hit the ground...😃

Hollow piston rods with structural problems at 8 MPH has never been a consideration.

Crank pins coming out ...maybe....

Re: Railroad Warehouse 2.8.2 Mikado Logger Build

I have a friend that worked in a grinding shop where they had electromagnetic chucks on the surface grinders (lots of little transformer cores that didn't seem to like permanent magnet chucks...) first time the power went off -> he noticed that EVERYBODY in the shop was on the floor...until the whee...
