Re: Loading Ramp Angle

Pat, Bill - Yes I will definitely be sliding on the pilot on the acute angles. It's an RMI Forney, so it weighs 1,000 lbs dry? I'm seeing aluminum ramps with 3,000 lbs ratings (15" wide) that are available but spendy. Thinking I would more likely build at wood framed truss with a mid support. I...

Loading Ramp Angle

I'm trying to figure out how to unload from a trailer to an existing loading ramp at local club. Club ramp height is 16". Trailer deck is 32". With a 10' ramp it looks like a 7.7° approach angle. Does anyone have experience that could let me know if this is workable? Thanks... Trailer load...

Re: Cylinder Covers for Allen Mogul

Wow that looks good. OK, modifying my plan for .015 or .020. Much easier to turn down the insides of my existing covers. Thanks guys!

Re: Cylinder Covers for Allen Mogul

OK, so it sounds like I'm on the right path for the jacket, but need to use minimum 0.050 and modify the brass cylinder covers to suit that. Thanks for the advice.

Cylinder Covers for Allen Mogul

I'm contemplating how to tackle cylinder covers for my Allen Mogul. .008 or .009 shim stock will fit under the brass covers seen in the photo. Create the shape, retain it with those covers, good to go. Or is .008 to thin? Even with half hard stock it's probably too thin? How do most Allen Mogul buil...

Re: Air over water boiler test?

Gents, thank you for the responses and the details. OK, I'm convinced air over water is not a great way to go. I do have a tender pump Carl, I just rebuilt it. Great plan, why didn't I think of that? And to be clear this is a home test to see if there are any issues before I drive the 8-12 hours to ...

Air over water boiler test?

I need to do a boiler test to check things before I travel. It's been a few years... thank you COVID. Anything wrong with an air pressure over water test? My plan is to fill the boiler completely full right up to the safeties, which are the highest point on the boiler. Cap one and put a pressure fit...

John, I'm going to go with double 2x10s! That square of the dimension thing I think, right?

Re: Max point load on 2 x (6)(8)(10) Wood Beam

Rudd, thanks for that. Imagine 1,500 lbs resting in the middle of a sawhorse. Thank you for interpreting the results for me. I'm going to go with triple 2x8s... and load it up slowly.

Re: Max point load on 2 x (6)(8)(10) Wood Beam

Thanks all! Yes, I need to clarify. This is for a static frame that would be required to pick up the end of the beam. It will not be in a trailer under dynamic loads or anything like that. My problems is... I had see the forestry forum calculator before, and even using their data (Doug Fir North for...

Max point load on 2 x (6)(8)(10) Wood Beam

I turn to you all here because there's so many smart people on this list. I can't find information that tells me the safe max point load for a 2x6, 2x8, etc. wood beam. The Google results are all about floor systems with distributed loads and a system of beams on center. I need to build a rack relat...
