Re: W00t! Ebay delivers!

That's OK, liveaboard. Metallurgy during the war was like electronics are now, great advances were made.

I have 6" shop built shaper. I guess it to be early to mid '50s. it doesn't even have numbered collars. That is one of the projects.

Re: W00t! Ebay delivers!

The development of arc welding during WW2 of ships and tanks is pretty interesting. It deserves some recognition. The Japanese welded a warship , to save weight,it broke up in a typhoon . They went back to riveting.

Re: W00t! Ebay delivers!

I have the 17th edition 1971,that's modern enough. Also the American Machinist Handbook 7th edition 1940, and a collectors edition reprint of the Machinery Handbook 1st, 1914. Mind you, the current large print edition might be good for ISO. The American Machinist is said to have some shaper pages.

Re: Forced Into the 21st Century

I've been under the trailer, one side spring eyes are 3/4", the other side 7/8". I feel better.

Re: Forced Into the 21st Century

That might have been the best way to open them up. I had 4 eyes to do, so I needed 8 of the 1" long to get my 1 3/4". Drilling them out and reaming them worked for the first 4,but the next 8 broke, but enough was left to get my 3/4". After my screw up, I purchased 12 more. I gave up w...

Re: Forced Into the 21st Century

Good news to report, I was finally able to power up. Doing so , I found the motor and my adaption worked. I still have to program the VFD to accept my newly wired in switches, hopefully it does. With the lathe functional , I could drill and ream the bronze bushings to 9/16" from 1/2". I ge...

Re: digital calipers that don't require the on button press

Where the digital calipers really shine, is the "What is it ?" something like 12mm or 1/2" ? A dial may mean taking the measurement and walking over to the conversion poster. I did get tired of always changing the battery, or worse , run out, so I bought a Mit.

We are on high enough ground. I tell them don't worry about earthquakes, just worry about a pyroclastic flow .It makes them feel so much better, chuckle.

Re: Forced Into the 21st Century

I picked up a barrelswitch at Princess Auto. They called it a 1hp, manufacturer rates it as 18amp at 220. odd that. That will be my forward, stop and reverse. Princess Auto stuff is quite reasonable, so I'm not out much with the switch change. It not like they are Allen Bradley . Two will still be u...

Re: Forced Into the 21st Century

I've watched a few of those vids. One was in a foreign language , in another, the girl they had announcin...

Re: Forced Into the 21st Century

The VFD doesn't have that much power for controls. A transformer and contacts would be another headache. From what I understand, it can be done. Besides, I have a use for that one usable set of contacts that came off the lathe. Remember, it was Taiwanese and electrics weren't their strong suit.It ha...

Re: Forced Into the 21st Century

The stump right now is the setting "Level of thermal electronic setting." in the power up sequence. I guess I got to dive into that section and try to understand. Heck if I could just get power up, I could use the lathe. I need it to ream and shorten bronze oilite bushings for my 1958 util...
