Re: Indicator rod for clambering?
I rarely use an indicator rod. I use a long stylus dial test indicator and reach up in the bore and indicate the barrel where the throat will be.

Re: What was the problem with the Rem. 700?
Thanks for the replies folks, what you guys describe is how the Canjar trigger affected my rifle, it wasn't set overly light either but once I put the Jewel I had no further issue. It was also my opinion, from what I remember reading on the case that Remington should not have lost the. It's the &qu...

Re: What was the problem with the Rem. 700?
Get it for a build, triggers are easy to replace on them. And people sell factory triggers all the time since there are so many aftermarket triggers for Remingtons.

Re: Anyone made a floating reamer holder?
At the risk of looking really studid, oops to late, :P , I have to ask: How does a floating reamer holder get the reamer started on center? If I understand the princiapal of using a floating reamer it is to allow it to bore straight into the chamber and not cant at an angle as one might expect if t...

Buying a MIG
I've done a fair amount of stick welding on the construction jobs over they years. Not a pipe fitter by any means, but I can run a decent weld and they get the job done. I picked up an old Marquette A/C machine years ago free that doesn't weld for nuthin. If I hadn't done welding in the past, I woul...

Re: Stock Woes
Actually, I use shims of paper stacked to the proper height/thickness to get the barrel centered AND to get the action setting level in the stock. The rear screw keeps that end where it needs to be, then stack shims so the action doesn't tip forward and does not have a gap at the front. I hope I'm e...

Re: Stock Woes
Whether it's a B&C or a HS Precision or any other, I believe they all need to be bedded. I worked on one like you have for a friend, and yes, I removed some of the stock material that squeezed past the bedding block, relieved the forearm area for barrel clearance. Once that is all done, I do a s...

Re: .22 Hornet Revolver
Why? Well even way back then, my friend was all about getting by on his own. Casting bullets, of course reloading, and even making his own black powder if need be (I don't think he did, but he knew how to). But with the Hornet, you can load it down to a rim fire level or punch it up some. Very cheap...

Re: .22 Hornet Revolver
Many years ago I knew a guy that got a "blank" Ruger cylinder and made just such a revolver, 22 Hornet. He used cast bullets and not loaded very hot if I recall, but it never hung up from case setback that I saw. I shot it a fair amount, no problems. Too many years ago before I payed a lot...

Re: Marking metal "etch-o-matic"
I use one for marking barrels. It does fine, with a couple suggestions. I use their wax paper, I tried the regular stuff you buy in a store and found my old type writer wouldn't punch through it. Their paper isn't expensive. Once you have the paper typed the way you want it, tape it in place on the ...

Re: hi i have a mori seiki
I would look into a VFD instead of a RFC. I think you will have to change over the voltage on the motor, but with the right VFD (which isn't expensive) you can run the 3ph motor off of single phase 240.

Re: making gun barrels in the lathe
I would be interested in the progress as well. There was a barrel maker, who made very good benchrest grade barrels by the way, that used modified lathes. If you think about it, most that have a lathe with a big enough spindle hole chamber through the headstock. So, why not mount a piece of steel th...
