The South Bend has a plain taper attachment whereas the Standard Modern has a superior telescopic attachment and is a gear head machine and the South bend is belt driven. I still say use wood and soak in oil after machining. Way cheaper than anything else and will last as long as plastic.

I have actually used wood for that kind of application. Use maybe birch and after machining soak it in linseed oil. make a shoulder bushing so it doesn't fall out.

Thanks Ken. I broke a blade yesterday, bevel ground it and silver brazed it in a guide I made. So far it's cut 50 sq inches without a bump or a hitch. 4 1/2" dia Durabar come off within .003 parallel So the blade welder is no longer needed. Peter

Not normal for a quality end mill but par for the course for a chinese end mill, they forget to grind clearance on their cutters. Ask me how I know. Peter

The box is a joke, make a new one out of wood with a router and suitable guide you should make a mike box you will be proud of. peter
