I picked up a 60 Amp disconnect at Lowes or Home Depot and installed it for the 3 HP VFD on my mill, and again for the 3 HP VFD on my lathe. So far, so good.

I've personally applied strong muriatic acid directly to the toilet here on countless occasions. Walmart sells it labeled as "Toilet Bowl Cleaner." It is quite effective at removing rust and other "stuff." Flush it down and the septic system does the rest.

I'd use electrolytic rust removal. I have a 55 gallon plastic drum filled with water plus a cup of washing soda, miscellaneous ugly steel for sacrificial electrodes, and a 12 Volt 10 Amp transformer-type battery charger I picked up for $5.00 at a yard sale. Yes, I can. Soldering resistors and capacitors down to 0602 and SMD ICs is no problem for me so far. I routinely do prototyping on microcontroller devices at that size. Liquid flux is my friend there!
