Another benefit is finding errors in the plans when the software shows parts that don't assemble properly.WJH wrote:You know, the best way to learn a 3d cad program like Fusion360 or Solidworks, is to take a set of plans, and build it in the cad program.

Re: American Model Engineering
Someone who buys the business needs to be able to operate the screw machine. Apparently it's a veteran B&S; setting up these mechanically is likely a disappearing skill.

Re: G8x mill code question
G81Z-0.042R.1F20 X4.043Y-0.861 In simple language, is this sequence supposed to be 1 canned cycle or two? And to clarify. If G98 is in effect before the G81, the retract will be the higher of the initial Z or .1. If G99, then .1. The "problem" being posed is this example G0 Z1 G98 G81Z-0.0...

G8x mill code question
This question came up when a friend sent me a g-code program where G8x and G98/99 weren't working together as he expected. If I issue a G81 and then on the next line just specify an X and or Y, am I specifying a single canned cycle or two separate cycles with the second inheriting modal values from ...

I also called and got Ron on the phone. Seems his wife had major surgery yesterday. I asked about ordering from inventory, and he said that since he's trying to sell the business, filling large orders could leave "holes" in the stock and inhibit a sale. So until someone takes it over we're...

Rough and Tumble
My wife and I attended the Rough and Tumble show last week. It was quite an experience with 100 traction engines on display as well as many other interesting engines of all sorts. On the site is a narrow gauge Shay engine that provides passenger service around the property. In talking to the enginee...

Re: Running on CO2?
I have a 20# CO2 tank that I use primarily for inflating tires. In the past I used it to power nail guns as well. I tried to use it to power a fairly large stationary engine model at a show, but without success. I get plenty of pressure, but the volume drops off too quickly. For the same reason I ca...

Re: A champion is born.
I saw Pam over a year ago at NAMES. In addition to the loco she was building an airplane model of some sort and had the landing gear on display.
