Re: Allen Models Question

Harold Allen was a professor at The University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. Steam was his hobby. He built a 12" gauge railroad at his house in Ann Arbor. His son Michael worked at Rider's Hobby shops and eventually bought the Flint store. He moved back to the family home after his father passed aw...

Re: boiler wash

At this point I would try Steve's suggestion of using more LSB8000 for a couple of cycles to clean things up.

Re: boiler wash

Is the steam dome removable? Do you have any way to drain the water, any blowdown valves?

Re: 2 1/2" scale 4-6-0 build

I want to start by saying Marty Knox has been a wealth of information for me on the building of this locomotive. There were some valve gear print issues which he and Ed Archer helped to resolve. Marty has at all steps kept me up to date. Thanks Marty! Thank you for the kind comments Jim. Your boile...

Re: Ed Woodings

I have two stories about Ed Woodings. He had his 1" Atlantic at the New Jersey Live Steamers. He mentioned he was building a T-1. I said I always liked them, and I rode behind 2124. He gave me a withering look and said 'I am building a PENNSY T-1!' After I left New Jersey I didn't see him for y...

What province was that for? Here 10 square feet is the magic number for certification. (Ontario).
Manitoba, not Alberta. I should have checked my records before posting.

Re: Ulin Locmotive k-27

Just be aware that you are in the land of a full TSSA boiler for something like that...it's quite a bit bigger than the DHR D class boiler that I absconded from Ontario with, (right at the 10 sq ft mark) or the 4' Fowler that drew ire of TSSA. It'll be a bigger boiler than the late Jim Small's Maxi...

Re: Ulin Locmotive k-27

Glenn Grasley and I have built four 2.5" scale K-27 boilers. The Ulin drawing is pretty much useless. I have copies of the D&RGW drawings and scaled the boilers from those drawings.
