Re: 20 and 30lb horizontial propane tanks - good deal

There is a propane dealer near me that will re certify a tank if you buy your propane from them. As I get older, the 20 lb tanks are easier to handle. While I am happy to use my 30 lb tanks, were I to do it all over today, I would go with the 20 lb vertical tanks. Sometimes it is more convenient to ...

Re: MPT to NPT Adapter

Can you show a photo of the general arrangement of what you are trying to cobble together? Many times I have cut and silver soldered different fittings together to accomplish what I needed. Also, what kind of cylinder cock design are you using? Maybe the MPT can be eliminated altogether, unless, tha...

Re: Removing boiler/smokebox

It looks like the lower half of the Steam Leg cover could be split lengthwise. Your photo shows a nut and bolt holding the halves together. If so, take this apart and you should see where the copper tube is fitted to the cylinders. If it's just a faked split cover, then you're outta luck.

Re: Drafting issues

For me, getting the draft correct with a propane fire was helped tremendously by using a infrared thermometer to measure stack temperature. Just over 400 degrees at the stack seems to be good for my LE Mogul.

Re: Railroad Warehouse 90-Ton Mikado – 7.25” Gauge Question?

I did not get any builders notes with the Logging Mike built by Ed Abate.

There are wide thrust washers between the rods, so it looks like the frame was built narrow, with the cylinders built for 7.5 inch gauge. I have been running it for about 15 years now and it runs like a top.

Re: RV Anti freeze for storage

I have kept 3 or 4 locos in my garage warm with just 1 light bulb. I push the locos close together and cover everything with moving blankets. I hang 1 trouble light (the kind with the metal reflector) in the middle under the locos. THe rising heat warms the metals and the blankets capture the heat. ...

Re: Pacific 4-6-2 Build 1”

Welcome to the LE Pacific club. There are many examles of LE Pacifics (and Atlantics) in both 1 Inch and 1.5 Inch scale. I have had my 1 Inch Pacific for over 30 years. It's too bad that 1 inch castings are no longer available. Just this past week at the St. Croix RR in Hudson Wisconsin, there were ...

Re: Tapping Pipe Fittings

If you are going to be doing any amount of piping work now or in the future, you might as well get the taps and dies.

For me, probably 90% of my pipe work that is threaded is 1/4 inch. That is for both 1 inch scale and 1.5 in scale.

The Goldenrod oilers, and the Mcmaster Carr oilers are both the same. I have seen them at Tractor Supply also.

The company that makes them is https://www.dutton-lainson.com/categories.php?cat=31 Located in Hastings NE
