Falcon:
Yes, it is all about capability...I have not used mine either.
I bought it before I installed a DRO for my mill, with the plan to use it for bolt circles and cutting radii and gears. Now it will be used for radii and gears so two out of three isn't bad.

Re: Shopping for 6" Rotary Table...
Well, I did get up courage to take it apart, driven by the false statement in one of the above links that the worm gear was pot metal. The gears are steel . I am further impressed that everything was well greased and the back face of the table has a nice spiral oil groove. The table bearing is a lar...

Re: Shopping for 6" Rotary Table...
Bolster: I have the 6" Grizzly and it is made in India. It is beautifully made and finished and looks great on my shelf. I don't know how one could do any better for a couple hundred bucks. I particularly like the reasonable weight. I considered taking it appart to see how the inside is made bu...

Re: Rust in photos
I appreciate the suggestions. Photography has been one of my hobbies over the years but I have been getting lazy and using the automatic features where some manual settings would be better. The new Samsung camera came with a photo and video editing program that has all of the bells and whistles that...

Re: Rust in photos
Some good observations and suggestions, thanks. I have been relying too much on the built in program of the camera without taking critical factors into account. I prefer the looks of my sample photo taken with the flash even though it shows rust where there is very little. As mentioned above, the co...

Re: Rust in photos
Thanks for the suggestions. I tried a photo with and without flash which proves that the flash is the problem. I don't like Photo Shop! I have Pro on one of my computers and I hate the way it takes over as the default photo handler (never again). These photos were taken with an Olympus C750 which is...

Rust in photos
I seem to see more rust in photos that I take of my machines than I see with the naked eye. Other photos on the Forum show a lot of rust as well and I am wondering why. Rust is a big enough problem without the camera exaggerating it. Does anyone have a way, such as lighting, to make the photos corre...

Nice job Davo! Thanks for posting.
I see that you got the Y axis scale mounted on the left side as you were planning. My Y and Z ended up on the right with the horizontal switch up on the column.
We heard that they had an earthquake in Western Australia.
Best regards, Jack

Re: Show us your milling machine!
seal killer: My 3616 continues to spin along well. I can't complain and neither does it no matter how I mistreat it. I go back and forth about DRO, no DRO, y and z powerfeed, no y and z powerfeed, CNC, no CNC. Now that I have the DRO I am convinced that it is perfect for us part time machinists. The...

Re: Show us your lathe!
These are my lathes; an ENCO 7x10, a 9x48 Southbend, and an ENCO 13x40.
I first had an Atlas like shown in MikeA's photo above with which I made the tool holder now on the Southbend (with aluminum spacer). I had a mill attachment for the Atlas and used it to make the tool holder.
Best regards, Jack

seal killer: I have only used the horizontal spindle in the mode shown in the link: http://www.chaski.org/homemachinist/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=84417 I have not tried it with the arbor and overarm as I don't have any cutters as yet. Since I am over 6' tall, the planks are staying. I do plan to cut t...
