Lathe Drum Switch Lever Direction

I have three lathes. On two lathes the drum switch handle is moved to the right for forward spindle rotation. On the third it is the left position. On this one the switch cover is exposed showing the embossed L and R and that's the way I hooked it up. More than once I have mistakenly flipped it in r...

Re: Cutting oil holder

I use Sterno heat chafing dish cans. The style with the small pop out center lid. The cutting oil brush rests in it nicely and the hole edge is good for wiping the bristles. When the chips accumulate, the hole is big enough for wiping out easily. A magnet glued to the bottom can hold it in the T slo...

Re: loose screw issue

RSG, I have used grass whip cord, available in diff sizes, for DIY "Nylok" needs many times. The best fix for stripped holes in concrete when
using Tapcon screws too. GW cord is very tough.

Re: Cutting aluminum on a band saw

The majority of chips can be knocked of the blade by fitting a brush to lightly rub on the blade. I have a Powermatic 15" Vertical. No problems with tires since new in the 80's. Buy a brass swede brush (about 1 x 3"wood handle ) and cut it in half. Mount one brush on a simple L bracket to ...

Re: ANSI Standard Force and Shrink Fits

I did the shrink fit for iron wheels recently. Calculating the coefficient of expansion I chose 300*F for 1" dia.
Didn't work. The heat transfer is VERY fast. 500* gave enough clearance vs time to get'er in there to the shoulder. :D

Re: Builders Plates

I have bought R. Dustins plates as well. Used them as a pattern to make silicone rubber molds then
poured waxes to have lost wax cast in silicon bronze by an art caster. Beautiful.
The early Westinghouse air pump cast bronze builders plate in 1/8 scale in this pic.
