I have made hand dies similar to L.E. Wilson style before. I just use old barrels and machine them down to a smaller more uniform diameter. Then machine some 12L14 to make a outer sleeve and press them together, then ream with a chamber reamer. Machine the end for a neck bushing or just buy them fro...

No there is no standard. I use .500x28 tpi for hunting tapered barrels and .625x24 for varmint weight and sometimes .750x 20 for the large stuff. All are custom fit for each break. I index them by skimming as you put it. Divide the thread by 1. I install about 20 a year on hunting rifles. Blagg Rifles
