Re: Pulled the trigger on a mill
Mini Bike, I have a 1987 RF-31 mill/drill (round column). It may be a little larger than yours in some dimensions. Even with all it's limitations, I have found it to be very useful and I have done some nice work with it. I had some trouble with end mills drifting out when I was using R-8 collets to ...

Wow, wish I had a need for it, or a place for it, or both

Shars adjustable universal chuck
Hi guys. I am considering purchasing a Adjustable Universal Chuck from Shars. Why Shars? the short answer is price. That said, I don't want to buy a piece of junk. I am considering a 8" three jaw for use on my 13X40 lathe. Have any of you guys had experience with these Shars chucks? If so I wou...

Re: 2 more lathes bite the dust!
Well, hustle down to the yard and tell 'em you need some practice pieces of scrap and want to just poke around in the piles. You may find some useful stuff. AND, you get to pay cents/lb prices for it. I have 10' or 1 1/2" aluminum rod that I bought at .20/lb, among other things. Crap, I wonder...

Re: How the heck do I change the oil in a Jet 13x40?
JohnnyK, I have a Jet GHB1340A, vaguely similar to the lathe pictured. The drain for my headstock is inside the cover for the gear train/drive pulleys in the lower right hand corner as you are facing the end of the lathe. There is a short 3/8" pipe with a collar and a pipe plug on it. There are...

Re: Resurfacing Disc Brake Rotors
Hey guys,
Forgive my ignorance but why couldn't you fixture the brake drum on a rotary table and mill the braking surface with the side of an end mill or a shell mill? Light cuts only, conventional milling. Might have to make a couple of passes.

Re: Shopping for 6" Rotary Table...
I have the 6" HV Phase II rotary table with the tail stock and the dividing plates. I also mounted a 5" 3 jaw phase II chuck on the RT. The RT is nicely finished and works smoothly. I could not be happier with it. It is large enough for the work I do, light enough where I can mount it by m...

Sorry Harold, You are correct, poor example for my lathe. But on a smaller lathe, with less than a 3/4 spindle it seems to me that this (bearing?)would give the steady a better chance to carry the loads inherent in parting. From the picture, it appears that the stock the OP is using won't pass thoug...
