Re: MEK sources

I was perplexed by the high price of potassium nitrate, and then I started Googling "saltpeter," "terrorism," and "bomb." I'll probably get a visit from the feds this week. I'm kidding about the feds, but it happened to someone I know. Her husband Googled "pressure cooker" after the Boston Marathon ...

Re: MEK sources

I have been looking MEK up to figure out why it's disappearing in some areas. Uncle Nanny Sam says MEK, acetone, and toluene are used in the illegal manufacture of cocaine, but he/she also says cocaine is not manufactured in the US. MEK can be used to make MEK peroxide, which is an explosive. I susp...

Re: Rant about Home Depot

A strep test from a drugstore costs something like $160, total, without insurance. Same test.

The drugstore I used to use was about three miles from Home Depot. Now I can say I have some Home Depot content.

Re: Rant about Home Depot

Don't start about healthcare. I went to a doc in the box in a strip mall for a strep throat test, which is a 5-minute in-office procedure that costs the provider very little and carries nearly zero risk of lawsuits. They charged me $50 and Aetna $600. Healthcare is expensive because providers charge...

Wooden Grinder Spacers

The other day, I replaced my white grinder wheels with CBN. When I took the old wheels off the grinder, two beautiful aluminum spacers fell out. I had forgotten all about them. I refused to use the crummy plastic spacers that were available, so I made my own. I thought about that today when I saw a ...

Re: What is This Thing?

I have never heard of septic pumps. Sounds horrible

It appears that this thing is an indexing valve, which is a primitive and unreliable tool for shifting between zones when using sprinklers.

What is This Thing?

I have two of these in my yard, right next to each other. I thought they were manifolds for the pool. Wild guess. Now I'm not so sure. Any clues? Mine have pressure gauges on them.

I like the contrast of a blue Sharpie, because metal is grey, not blue.
