Gorton 375 Grinder Spindle Disassembly
Haven't been around for a while. Hope everyone is doing well. I'm here with a repair question. I got myself a Gorton 375 tool grinder. Mine is one of the later ones with no oiler on the spindle. When it arrived today, I found that the spindle bearings were shot. I got the spindle out of the machine,...

Re: HF Sheet Metal Brake
You are going to be better off with pressure on every part of the crease.
I think we all knew that material has thickness, and I didn't say "4.5" outside width."

Re: HF Sheet Metal Brake
If the widths are all integral multiples of one inch, it will be impossible to make things like a 4.5"-wide box.

Re: VFD buying advice?? mill needs to spin!!
When I researched this, I found a long Practical Machinist thread which basically said speeding quality motors up--I mean like 400 Hz--was not a problem. I run my 3-HP belt grinder at over 120 Hz, and it seems quite happy. You can always put an external fan on a motor if you run it slow. It won't do...

Re: Mobile Base for a 3 in 1 lathe mill
You're not going to have problems. It's only 390 pounds. I had a guy who weighed 700 in the passenger seat of my truck. If you can make a bench that will hold up two girls who like ice cream, you can make one that will hold up this lathe. You could even use two-by-fours if you wanted. I would think ...

Flap Wheel Grit for Good Finish?
I got myself some Walter Enduro-Flex flap wheels in 40 grit, and I used them today to shape some parts I fabricated. They work great. They eat metal in a hurry, and you can trim them for more life. The finish they leave is a little coarse. I'm thinking of springing for a package of finer wheels. The...

Re: Size of Grinder Pedestal Platform?
By the way, from a cost standpoint, this thing is a washout. I spent $58 on steel (should have spent more like $45, but still). The wheels were around $23. I made the terrible mistake of buying fasteners at Ace instead of Tractor Supply, so they cost me $20 instead of $1.50. The paint will be $12. T...

Re: Size of Grinder Pedestal Platform?
As Terry said, sometimes people clamp various fixtures in front of grinders. The thing is, I would rather have the space and have no use for it than not have it and then realize I want it. I'm all done, except for the painting and, of course, redoing two screw holes I put in the wrong places. It cam...

Re: Size of Grinder Pedestal Platform?
That makes sense. I guess if I don't like it, I can always cut off the excess later.

Size of Grinder Pedestal Platform?
Yesterday I made myself a steel pedestal for an 8" bench grinder. The base of the grinder is only around 10" square. I was going to get a piece of plate that size to use as a platform for the pedestal, but I was only able to get 16" square. Now I'm wondering...do I really need to cut ...
