Re: Boring on the lathe

That looks to be a "EVERREDE" boring bar. They use that triangle style insert . Still got a couple of those bars left over from my tool sales. If I remember right MSC has those inserts.

Replace or plate ! Anysort of weld buildup would be a last resort repair as no parts available and need to use machine NOW .

More likely to use oil. Go to Vintage machainery and see if they don't have some litature for that lathe.

Re: Enco 100-1527 riser

Had the same issue re clearance ,had to open up the head end . I did not see any ill effects from the extra clearance on the base side. About the only time I ever moved/rotated the head/ram was to do work off the edge of the table. Like changing the bolt pattern on a car axle.

Re: Enco 100-1527 riser

All the ram head risers that I have seen were just a tublar cast section with no bolt patterns in any shape or form. Now the round ram BP risers is a different story ! Re: Enco 100-1527 riser

Yep spider will be there. Don't really need grade 8 for that app. Pull one of the current bolts out and check what thread form/pitch it has. May be metric or USS . Little known fact older BPs had 1/2X12 pitch bolts used for the spider. And depending on who made that mill for ENCO and what they copie...

Re: Bridgeport clone J head problems

Nobody ever oils that cam ring! Try some penetrating oil in the cam ring slots. I had to repair several BP type mills for that shifting sleeve being stuck when I was helping at my dealer friend's shop. A couple of them I had to pull the motor and and take the top cover off to free up the sleeve the ...

Re: What type of belt?

Well a lot of South Bend lathes had a V groove pully on the motor and a flat sheeve on the countershaft. Seemed to work well enough on the 2 SB lathes that I had !

The one set screw in the center of the gib is to lock the cross slide if needed. On most of the Chinese lathes they also have a simular locking screw on the compound slide.
