I have a CAD drawing for an 1-1/2 scale pump governor. Send me a PM if you would like a copy.
Correction, the drawing is for a 2.5" scale governor.

Re: Tender Water Valves

You can make a short rod connector of suitable diameter with a hole in the end so it will fit over the threaded part where the handle was. Cross drill the rod and valve part and put a pin or a set screw to hold it on and attach a smaller rod to come up to where you want your handle to be. This way t...

Re: Water quick-disconnects for tender/loco

I like the idea of paint ball gun quick disconnects. They look pretty small, what is the distance across the flats of the hex? I can't seem to find a spec for this on the net. Currently, I am just using cone unions I made myself, with a nipple on one end for the rubber hose. The downside is, of cou...

Re: Water quick-disconnects for tender/loco

I've never liked the quick disconnects due to their bulkiness. On my last engine I took a 5/16" flare fitting and machined the brass part to accept an o-ring. The groove has a bit of back cut so the o-ring snaps on and stays. It really works great and is so easy to hook up.

Re: linkage pin material

I have been using Drill rod for the wrist pins and crank pins. It is easy to machine and wears well without hardening.

Re: Boiler treatment

I think drying the boiler after running is the most important thing you can do. I blow down at about 30-40 PSI. It has often been said that this will dry the boiler. It does not. I remove everything from the dome and remove the washout plugs. Then place a computer fan, in a housing, on top of the do...

Re: vaccuum brakes

Do you have a shutoff supply valve going to your brake valve? If so try throttling the steam. I found that I have to do that and I hooked a vacuum gauge to the ejector to find the sweet spot.
