Re: Blower

here is another way of doing it that works well too but more bulky. This design doesn't heat up or soot up the fan. Re: Hackworth valve gear question

Ben, I suggest you use Tapered Pins in place of the roll pins shown in the plans, to fasten the shaft to the slide boxes. I used the roll pins and detected some twisting moments in the blocks when I ran my engine on air. the Allen Chloe calls for 1/16" dia pins to hole the crossover lever on it's s...

Re: Baking Tanks

I soft soldered the saddle tank on my Hunslet. I riveted it together and used the acid flux and propane torch. Worked fine but I did have some leaks.I filled those with wickable Loctite.

Re: Piston Ring Drag

do you have enough gap in the rings? are the rings automobile rings? if so they will have way too much pressure against the bore. you can ease that some by grinding the ID of the ring to thin the wall down.

Re: Formed cab roof angle 16 ga. steel

Not an easy task the first time but try your method again. That is the way to do it but it takes some skill to do it well. Try cold forming it. You need to get the metal to shrink when bending it to the horizontal and heating it will make it expand. You might try some 14ga. sheet. It is almost as th...

Re: MEG Wendy on Coal

James is right. Make the grate full length. If that isn't enough make the firebox longer. I would think there is no reason for it to not steam well.
