Re: Super heated Steam Throttle Lag

Steam from the dome throttle enters the center tube of the SH at the smokebox and goes to the firebox tee fitting. Then around the other 2 legs of the SH and back through the flues to the smokebox and to each cylinder. The pipe unions come up to a tee and are the exhaust blast. for some reason i can...

Re: Super heated Steam Throttle Lag

My throttle is in the dome ahead of the S heater. 3 long tubes go it through the smokebox and screw into nipples welded to the SH so it comes apart easily.

Re: Super heated Steam Throttle Lag

Dave, with that many tubes you might actually get some superheat. Most guys say they only get dry steam.
Here is what I have; made from 1/4" SS pipe. Short firebox so not much exposure.

Re: Long Henry-Tribute on a Train

Amazing Chris. just getting that many coal cars surprised me.

Not to rain on your parade but in the USA I think the record was 250 cars.

Re: injector?

Thanks for all the help. He will use 3/8" copper with inline check to a street EL at the boiler. I figured a 1/4" ball valve for the steam would be enough. 3/8" copper for the water line.

injector?

A friend is building an RGS 20 and is about ready to fire it. Since he can't get an EE injector or any other for that matter he is going to try to use a 3/8" Penberthy that he has. The question is how much can he reduce the plumbing sizes and still have it work? As you can expect he doesn't want to ...

Re: Driver Casting Repro

Do you have enough draft on the pattern to let it release?

Re: Super heated Steam Throttle Lag

I have a radiant SH in my Hunslet with throttle before the SH and in the dome. It works great but I really get little, if any, superheat. It does dry the steam very well and eliminates the wet stack that is so common with Hunslet engines. I don't notice any lag but sometimes after sitting for a few ...

Re: Steam oil

What does oil in boiler feed water do to a boiler to cause failure?

I have used soluble oil in my feedwater during washdown. it worked really well to prevent rust. LSB came along and I quit using the soluble oil.

Very nice. I love plumb bow launches but never thought about a Thistle conversion. I cut my teeth on a Lightning.
