Re: Drill chuck; new China or used German?

I've come to like keyless chucks for a lot of things. But I use holesaws quite a bit and learned the hard way that some keyless chucks self tighten.

Re: Mini snap ring pliers recommendation

Looks like that one functions a lot like the Quinn model I picked up today at hf. It certainly worked. i have a couple sets with removable pins already but they are missing some of the pins and I always found them to bend way to easily. I can't recall who made them but they have a linkage that flips...

Re: Mini snap ring pliers recommendation

I have made a set out of.a pair of hemostats....assuming you want to squeeze the ears Patience and a belt sander / files got me to the end result. Did not look like much but got the job done I've made bigger snap ring pliers out of needlenose pliers before. Now I have a decent set for bigger stuff....

Re: Mini snap ring pliers recommendation

I have machined plier tips to fit my needs. If you only had a lathe... RussN Yeah if only! I almost made some last night but it was getting late so I decided to think about it. I'll probably end up doing that. The $20 sets online seem to be pretty crappy. The good sets tend to be way more tha...

Mini snap ring pliers recommendation

I need to take the new rubber flex chuck apart to address the alignment key issue. The snap ring is smaller than any of my snap ring pliers will handle. My smallest set has pins that are 0.045" and they won't go in the holes. I thought about making a new set of tips for them but wondered if y'a...

New to me Jacobs 91 chuck

I just picked up a chuck and a full set of collets. So far I like the performance of this chuck, despite there being some who find it to be a waste of money. Much of what I do is an odd size, so ER collets have been my go-to, but needing a wrench to loosen and tighten when making a batch of parts is...

Re: Cut Off Toll Holder Hardware Source?

It's hard to tell from the picture but it looks more acute than 82. The thread could be acme but again it's hard to tell if it's that or just a poorly formed or worn 60 degree thread. No matter really. If you make a new nut for it, it can be whatever you can make or source. I'm curious what the fema...

Re: Differences in Quick Change Tool Posts

That's the way kdk tool holders are. I really like the fact that there's nothing sticking up from the tool holder. I also really hate that there isn't a little "handle" sticking up from the tool holder. I do wish that the height adjustment was better on the aloris style imports. Getting th...

Re: Cutting Narrow Snap Ring Groove?

I don't know about that. There are cheap 10" blades out there, but if I am paying more than $50 for a blade, I can see the value in getting a little more life out of it. Now, if I didn't have the ability to sharpen it and had to pay to have it sharpened, any value in resharpening is probably lo...

Re: Cut Off Toll Holder Hardware Source?

I'm having trouble picturing how those pieces fit together. Clearly the screw goes through the bigger piece. I can't imagine the location of the smaller piece, or why the screw looks like it does. Without the rest, it looks like the screw was cut almost in half and then the remaining half broke. Wha...

Re: Cut Off Toll Holder Hardware Source?

I'm not sure I've ever seen anybody selling parts to one of those holders. IMHO, if it's a poor design, and you have the machinery to make a new, better one, why not do so?
