Bruce, I have to agree. My father did not tinker but my maternal grandfather did more woodworking. We grew up on a farm so there was always something to fix. One of the adults that I admired most was the old gentleman that ran the repair (read blacksmith) shop near us. Then there was the mechanic th...

There is Solid Edge from Siemens its free. http://www.plm.automation.siemens.com/en_us/products/velocity/solidedge/free2d/index.shtml I have it installed but have not used it. I play with Turbocad. I agree with the comments that say CAD has a steep learning curve. Let us know what program you decide...

You can use a procedure I have heard called pecking. Either reduce the feed pressure on the drill or remove it from the hole either will cause a break in the chip.

Back years ago when I was in training to be a machinist one of the items that we were required to build was a set of v-blocks and clamps. In fact the first project was to take a piece of 6" round stock and machine it into a 1/4-28 v-block clamp screw. I spent many days threading, measuring over...

SAE 841 oil impregnated bronze I believe would be the best material. It is available in rectangular form from MSC and McMaster both but unless you are doing a lot of them I think the cost would be prohibitive. I think I have a piece in my tool box, but I don't remember what size it is. I'll try to f...

Sounds like you let the magic smoke out of the motor this is a bad thing. Seriously sounds like the motor burnt up. I would call for warranty repair.
