Almost done with the project

Hi All
Here is the finished product ...but I still haven`t done the setscrew in the knob. I did a test on the
high speed grinder. It seems the new jig did the job. The grinding wheel was 1/16 out of concentricity. The
jig made it concentric and minimized the noise.

Re: How to hold a knob to machine a setscrew

I was thinking about doing the setscrew in the milling machine. I`ve never done soft jaws. Sounds like
an interesting technique

4th axis

Hi all I have a diy cnc I build some years ago http://www.woodsolutions.com/diy-cnc.htm I`m wondering if anyone has purchased a 4th axis from ebay. There are a vast number of these items on ebay. The most common seems to be a pulley reduction and at the other extreme the high end harmonic drives. Ho...

Re: DIY chip tray for Bridgeport mill

Hi ken572 Ill take my chances with fire and use the box as is. Tomorrow I`ll work on the sides and add pictures when done. If I have a work piece that needs table clamping I`m out of luck and the chip tray must be removed. Also, just noticed that the left side is too high. Its higher then the bottom...

Re: DIY chip tray for Bridgeport mill

Hi
This is serious and I have it in my woodshop. I added some plexglass sides yesterday and did a test no chips on the mill, me, the
floor or the tooling cabinet. All the chips are in one place for easy clean up.

DIY chip tray for Bridgeport mill

Hi All I`m attempting a chip tray. There are a few pictures showing the construction. The box is basically a drawer that breaks apart on the centerline of the Kurt vise. I added a tongue and groove at the break apart joint to allow the two halves to align. The top edge of the box has grooves cut for...

Re: 30 dollar purchase of various machinist tools

I went back and purchased another set of tools and cutters. This time I was cheap and only handed over $30. I was looking mostly for cutters for my Bridgeport. I took alot of carbide milling cutters and even some broken bits. I`ve heard that carbide is going for $10 a pound as scrap. There are alot ...

50 dollar purchase of various machinist tools

Hi I got a bridgeport a few years ago. I`ve been buying tools slowly over the past few years. A friend just purchased a dumspter filled with machinist tools and I puchased what you see here for $50.00 PS I`m wondering if anyone has seen the strange cutter in pic DSCF14.JPG. Re: Buying a new DRO need help.

Hi I got this recommendation from a member of the Practical Machinist. I liked the way the display shows the numbers instead of the usual LED type displays. I eyes aren't what they used to be. Yes, it is more expensive. Its on sale for $1200 instead of the $1500. That`s for a 3 axis. I`m a novice bu...

Buying a new DRO need help.

I`ve been waiting a long time for a DRO. It seems the time is now for the purchase. I need a double check on the length of reader travel I selected for my Bridgeport. The machine has a 32 inch travel with a 15 inch move length. It normally is 20 but I have a servo power feed that reduces the travel....
