Find Dave Sclavi's Youtube series on making foundry patterns. You'll learn a ton by watching Dave at work.

Re: Big News

Might be a good time to arrange a meet of Reading A5a Camelbacks. That would be a heck of a photo!

Re: Is the live steam hobby in decline?

I don't think so. What's in decline is training younger people in the skills to do machine work, carpentry, the satisfaction of working with your hands. Generally, once you've sat behind a locomotive and managed a train by yourself, you're hooked. I've seen it time and again. Even "live Diesel" is a...

Ditto the other's comments. Do you have an idea of the wheel arrangement for the CNJ Camelback?

Re: Alco AAR class B trucks

These look really nice, Pete, and they're applicable to a long list of potential Diesel locomotives from ALCO and GE, and perhaps a few FM and Baldwins.

I'll be anxious to see brass liners on the journals and wheels under them.

Re: Restoring C&O 1309 (2-6-6-2)

I would caution critics regarding this project. Undertaking the complete restoration of a steam locomotive is some of the most difficult work you can undertake. Funding is critical and having knowledgeable project managers on site is as much a part as funding. If you're a C&O fan, find out how you c...
