Re: How to Slect the Right Material
Going back to the original question, I'll add a rule of thumb: Look at what the major manufacturers do. If they make the table out of cast iron, there is probably a good reason. Figure out why they use it before you dismiss it. They may well have production and cost considerations that may not apply...

Re: Cheap Insulation for Garage Roof?
Steve, Hire an insulation contractor to spray foam the underside of the roof. They have skinny young guys that can crawl among the trusses and get it done in hours where it would take you or I weeks to apply batts or board or rolls of whatever. The cost of the whole job will likely be less than the ...

Re: Factory installed smoke
Did you know that all power tools, motors, and transformers work on the principle of condensed smoke. That is right the factory installed smoke makes them work. :? You don't believe me do you. I have been an electrician for forty years and I can assure you, that every time the smoke gets out of a m...

Re: Huge forging press
If it's any consolation, we still have some respectable stuff here...
My brother-in-law in Houston works for an oilfield equipment manufacturer. He refers to the 65,000ton press as "the little one".
I don't remember the tonnage of "the big one".

Re: Interesting user list............... for this site
Also your potential employer, is common practice now. Although I would not want to work for such a nazi company. For fun, Google yourself (discreetly) and see what comes up, you will be surprised. I did that. I learned to my surprise that I'm a 31 year old pro football player with an unimpressive r...

I believe the DoAll will have a threaded hole on top for a lifting eye. Do not lift it by the table - the trunnions aren't that strong.

They are not a standard thread. Boy, that's an understatement: ADJUSTING NUT BOLT/STUD: 25/128" diameter x 28 t.p.i. Did they REALLY have to make it 1/128" larger than 3/16? :-) Steve Does it really matter? As long as the tolerances don't stack up too badly and you don't jam a big stud in...

In Respect
I've just learned that Milacron's father died today (Milacron/Don runs the Practical Machinist website). I propose a toast to Don's father, and a moratorium on inter-forum rivalry for at least a day or two.
Peace to the whole family.

And, while we're on the subject, I'm sick and tired of cliches, and I'm bound and determined to stop using them, so help me God! (Just thought I'd toss a little humor in...the above statement is pretty much all cliches) I totally agree with the intention of this thread...thank you! Mark in Modesto ...
