Re: 12VCompressor for a Brake Car

I have a question for you all, is there a lower pressure 12 volt pressure switch available? My brakes are going to be air pressure applied to release them and I'm using 1-1/4" cylinders so I don't think I will need more than 60-75 PSI. All the switches seem to be 95-110 or similar. So that unloader...

Re: 12VCompressor for a Brake Car

I was going to ask if the unloaded valve was on a separate line, now it makes sense. Sounds like I need to get me one of these valves and try it out. Thanks! cool, fyi, this is the last one i picked up for the dismal https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00273UQQQ/ref=ox_sc_saved_title_10?smid=A1VJ396...

Re: 12VCompressor for a Brake Car

I'm not sure that would accomplish the same goal. It does look like it would relieve the pressure off the heads of the compressor once the set pressure has been reached but I don't think it would allow the compressor to start to atmosphere? At least, that is how I am interpreting the description of...

Re: 12VCompressor for a Brake Car

***NOTE*** I fully recommend the Viair compressor but I also understand that people have to work on a budget. This is a good alternative. A few years ago, I started an experiment for a low cost, reliable air compressor setup as the Viair compressor cost can scare people a bit. The biggest problem I...

Re: Bolster clearance question

I have adapted the three point design methodology when it comes to building rolling stock with both "show" cars and butt haulers. it makes a very stable yet flexible car. one truck is setup with very close clearances between the car and truck bolster side bearings and the other truck is either missi...

Re: 12VCompressor for a Brake Car

There was a man that was critically injured and did not survive when some plastic air plumbing exploded. Even the polycarbonate bowls on moisture traps and oilers have warnings that they may shatter and should be replaced periodically. For compressors, I have the larger HF 12 volt compressor, and h...

Re: 12VCompressor for a Brake Car

Nothing is perfect. The pressure switch and high current relay (especially if "automotive" quality) are subject to failure, possibly allowing the compressor to run indefinitely. While compressor maximum output pressure is self-limiting to some extent, it's worthwhile to incorporate a safety valve i...

Re: Temporary Trailer-Engine haul

Good ideas in this thread. I'm interested to hear (and see) how other people are holding down their locomotives while being transported. Anyone have a favorite device to "nail down" their engine ? - Jimi - yes, I use two large angle brackets made up from 1X.375 far bent at a 90 degree angle. it bol...

Re: 12VCompressor for a Brake Car

Morning, I am running the Viair 444c for both locomotives. its the best i have used yet. its not cheap (just under 200 bucks) but when compared to the price of the train set its there to control, its very cheap. I started using a motor cycle battery, it did ok, moved up to a garden tractor battery, ...
