Hi Glen,
Nice work! Lots of familiar looking parts here. I have a 1931 5hp Z sitting under a tarp in my back yard. It runs well until something gets loose and falls off! Interesting old engines.

I believe there are a lot more than just a few of us that hope you stick around. Thanks for all you help Harold. David I agree strongly. You have been a big help in my education here, Harold. Thank you for all the time you spend in making this a great forum for machining, and for sharing so freely ...

Maybe that is a std configuration that Enco carries.

Re: Machining a pulley
Nice work on the soft jaws, but they were meant to be cut up! You can also buy them for a reasonable cost, or weld on material after they are pretty well cut away. Thanks Russ, they are cut up now. They are for a Grizzly chuck G9819. Not the chuck I really wanted but budgetary restraints were impos...

Re: Machining a pulley
i do have some soft jaws which were a complicated project from last month. I have not used them yet. I bought the chuck in Nov to get the 2 piece jaws for that purpose. IMG_2385.JPG I assume for this job I would machine 2 steps in the jaws, maybe .200 to .250 deep to match the diameters of the 2 pul...

Machining a pulley
What would the process be for machining an aluminum (7050) 2 step pulley - 2.5" and 5" with 5/8 bore? This is part of a project to make my wood cutting bandsaw go slow enough for cutting metal. IMG_2381.JPG At this point I have a 5x5x1.75" block of aluminum, bandsawn the corners off w...

My Grizzly boring heads ( 2" and 3" ) are .001 on the diameter, and they seem to work fine.

Re: looking for my first mill
I have been looking at the Grizzly mill/drills - G0704 and G0705. One thing that bothers me about the 0704 is the 2" spindle travel. I drill lots of holes more than 2 inches deep and can't help thinking that might be a problem. The 0705 has 4-3/4 spindle travel but also has a round column. Seem...

Re: How to mill a square recess?
Thanks Oscer, I like your color coding idea, and the whiteboard if I could find somewhere to put it (maybe on the door). As you can see from my working sketch, it gets confusing when you have the shaft, the slider, and the window all with dimensions, the offsets from 0,0 (back right in my case to ge...

I was doing .050 with my 3" flycutter on some 7050 aluminum with no problem.
