Missing emails

Hi everyone, I started perusing my junk-email folder today and noticed that a lot of customer and other important emails had been flagged as spam. Conveniently, any items in my junk folder are automatically deleted after 30 days. If you wrote to me through my website or email and have not received a...

Re: Stainless steel boiler/exchanger?

While I was in Germany I noticed that the use of stainless steel boilers is now commonplace. Not all stainless is equal. 316L is the material of choice for a boiler. My understanding is magic to making a lasting stainless boiler is in the proper welding. Maybe someone with experience on welding stai...

Anthony, I'm just glad to see it looks like you are making time to work on your 0-6-0. It should be spectacular when it is done.
It’s actually something else. A bit of a teaser for a later announcement. :D

Re: I'm just an operator

Harold, Working with internal stress is definitely a huge part of it, and something that unfortunately doesn’t go away with CNC. I did not use stress relieved material. Might have been nice, but I planned my operations to work with it. The first order of business was to rough out all sides, leaving ...

I'm just an operator

Hi Everyone, Before I begin, never in a million years would I sit here and suggest that CNC is better than manual machining, nor visa versa. I simply don't believe that to be true. I have a manual mill and a manual lathe, and I have no intention of getting rid of either one. They are invaluable tool...

Re: Water strainer

Carl,

I use those for my injectors and have never had an issue with flow or particles getting stuck.

Dan,
Close! The smallest holes in the small scales injector are .02”, and .031 on the standard, so 100 mesh would be a safe route.

And I do still plan on making safeties for the 3/4” modelers as well.

1" Safety Valve Progress and other updates

Hi everyone, I've been intermittently working on the safeties as time permits. Hoping to run a batch before the FLLS anniversary meet in August. For my first round of testing I paid an excessive price to have some springs made that ended up being too light. Wound some myself that seem to be working ...

Re: Another Injector Piping Question

The delivery line can be shared with other water inputs, but it must have its own check valve to prevent the output of other feeds interfering with the injector's operation. You also don't want the injector feeding back into other sources. It's best practice to have an injector's inputs and outputs ...

Jack,

I apologize if I missed the information, but what are the overall dimensions of your brake cylinder casting? I may need one for the 3/4" pacific.

Re: Another plumbing question

A standard globe valve will work more than fine. The idea that steam needs to be blasted into an injector for it to work best is nothing more than a myth. We're spoiled that these miniature injectors are able to work with a blast of steam at all. Most, including full sized, don't.
