Re: Which gears come with the Harbor Freight 7x12 mini lathe

OK, thanks - we must have misplaced them or they wandered off somehow.

Re: Which gears come with the Harbor Freight 7x12 mini lathe

The parts list shows a number of gears to be used for threading (30, 35, 40, 45, 50, 55, 57, 60, 65 tooth), whereas it comes with two 20-tooth and two 80-tooth gears installed for driving the spindle for normal turning and facing operations. So while we do have the 20- and 80-tooth gears installed i...

Which gears come with the Harbor Freight 7x12 mini lathe?

We have a 7x12 mini lathe at our makerspace. The instruction manual parts list implies that a (fairly) full set of gears for threading comes with the lathe, however we can not find any gears beyond the ones that are already installed in the headstock. Is the mini lathe shipped with additional gears?...

Re: Any workholding tips for dealing with 'large' aluminum a

I would try to do the squaring by laying the angle with the ridge up and the edges down on the table. Height should be manageable in one setup. Pete Like making a "roof" with the angle stock? I've done that in a bandsaw when the length of one of the sides was too great for the capacity of...

That's a very interesting idea, thanks - it opens up several possibilities for changing around the workflow (because I am thinking of making multiple pieces).

Any workholding tips for dealing with 'large' aluminum angle

I need to do several operations with my manual milling machine (some milling, some drilling) on some largish aluminum angle stock - for example, 5" x 3" x 0.25" 6061 angle stock. I'm a bit unsure of how to best handle that work. I do not need to keep super-close tolerances (perhaps pl...

Re: Need guidance about drilling jig (or fixture) and bushin

Thanks for the suggestions, Harold. To make such a stop, would something like a flat piece of steel or perhaps a piece of rectangular cross-section steel, about four feet long, clamped to the table, with a perpendicular (vertical) piece at the end, against which the angle stock could be positioned, ...

Need guidance about drilling jig (or fixture) and bushings

I will need to drill four 0.275" diameter holes in specific positions along a one-foot-long section in the middle of a six-foot-long piece of 1.25" x 1.25" x 0.125" aluminum angle stock. Then I will need to repeat that operation on another 70 pieces of angle stock. The holes will...

Re: What's the best saw for this aluminum? Bandsaw? Chop saw

Also note that I was cutting the material "flat" across the width of the stock instead of across the edge. I just saw an illustration from http://www.supercutbandsaw.com/how_to_choose.html that would seem to suggest that I'm "doing it wrong": http://www.supercutbandsaw.com/images...
