Sand with 180 grit sand paper, blow off with air, spray with acetone, do not use a rag or paper towel as they will leave lint behind. Spray with primer after acetone has dried. you can use either self etching primer or an epoxy primer.

Yes you can put the red oxide primer over the gray primer.I am assuming you are planing to use the gray primer to make sure that the metal is completely covered as the red oxide primers dark color may have a section looks covered even though it is not. Good suggestion might be to spray the gray prim...

The West Valley Consolidations are great little engines, I have a friend who has one. You will find that the 2" cylinder bore is a little too big for the small boiler, suggest sleeve it down to 1.75".

Ok,here are some basics of primer in general. A primer's purpose is to fill minor imperfections, bond to the base material, and to allow the paint adhere to it. in regards to the Allegheny in Willows. I found this Picture Don Youngling posted on a Facebook group. According to some of the post it was built by Charlie Derbyshire of LALS.
