Re: Double Flaring on Copper Tubing

I used to do the double flare on the steel gas lines going to the four single barrels on my '65 Corvair Corsa. Single flare leaked.

Re: Stuart #4 Cylinder Port Core Issue

Thanks guys, looks like I'll try some experiments with the D valve and if that fails, there is always the plate to try!

Stuart #4 Cylinder Port Core Issue

The core used to cast the cylinder on my Stuart #4 does not allow the ports to be machined to the drawings. This kit was purchased in London in the 1970’s; glad I didn’t have to explain this to current TSA or UK equivalent on my flight back to Los Angeles! Obviously I can’t return the Stuart casting...

Re: Stuart Steam Boiler Feed Pump (SBFP) - Stuart gasket material "Copperite" and "Oakenstrong"

All the pump (water) and cylinder (steam) are flat gaskets so not ring type for Sam's method. Hadn't thought of the Model Engineer magazine. Does Archive.org have a good search function? Getting spoiled on the AI they used by my genealogy sites, they even read bad cursive!

Stuart Steam Boiler Feed Pump (SBFP) - Older set of castings - Anyone have an old drawing set?

Years ago I bought box of various steam parts (loco and stationary). Lately I have rediscovered a small box containing most of the castings and hardware for the Stuart Steam Boiler Feed Pump (SBFP). The previous owner had started some machining, of varying quality. I have obtained the few missing gu...

Stuart Steam Boiler Feed Pump (SBFP) - Stuart gasket material "Copperite" and "Oakenstrong"

The drawings for the Stuart Steam Boiler Feed Pump (SBFP) calls out material for the three pump gaskets as "Copperite" 1/32" thick. Google search turned up nothing. Is this just soft 1/32" thick copper of something fancy? Also, the cylinder gaskets are called out as "Oakenst...

Re: 5/32 ME fitting in ANSI 5/32-40 tapped hole

Rich, you are right, the 60 degree 5/32-40 HSS tap works fine. To those who asked why not order from Reeves. yes, I have in the past ordered the Apex taps from Reeves. I didn't order the taps when I ordered the valves because I have 5/32-40 ME taps. I ground on the nose of one to use as a bottom tap...

5/32 ME fitting in ANSI 5/32-40 tapped hole

Probably discussed many times but browser not finding it. Have 5/32 ME cylinder cocks (from Reeves). Nearest, cheapest USA made HSS tap is 60 degree 5/32-40. Will the 55 degree Whitworth thread form work at all, or a little bit, or???

Re: 1.5" scale 2-6-0

There is Bob Reedy's "Building a 1.5" Scale Mogul" in Live Steam starting with the March/April 1996 issue. It ran over multiple issues. The basis was the Railroad Supply Mogul which he bought the drawings for, but fabbed most parts instead of castings. Regarding the lead truck, be bou...
