Re: Steam chest pressure.

When I ran Locomotives in Poland we had a Boiler Pressure Gauge and a Chest Gauge. We typically ran at .5mpa (about 70 or so lbs). Boiler was 1.5 mpa (217 lbs). What I did notice is having the chest gauge you see every subtle change in grade or speed. As the loco goes faster you cycle the cylinders ...

Re: Camelbacks

I have always liked the odd designs like the 4-8-0. NdeM had some standard gauge ones that look like USRA ish designs. There were actually some narrow gauge ones in the Black Hills built by ALCO (Schenectady). Having recently been to Colorado RR Museum in Golden I have been wondering if the Brooks 2...

There was also some odd wheel arrangements. CNJ had 4-8-0 Camelbacks I think.

Re: Ash Pan Latch Ideas?

Another related side item is brake equalization. If you update you brake beams and linkages to be correctly / prototypically equalized, the bottom doors will no longer clear the revised brake components. This forced me to upgrade the ashpan to a slider variant.

Re: Little Engines Wendy?

So any idea how many MEG Wendy engines are actually out there? I picked up the one on DLS - used to run at Cinder Sniffers. I remember there was another in Florida a year or so ago that was for sale. Going through Harlock's rebuild thread got me to wondering just how many are out there.

Appropriate tip for Ball oilers?

Does anyone know if there is a specific type of oil can tip that should be used when putting oil in to a Ball Oiler? I recently picked up an engine that is riddled with Ball Oilers. I have them all over my lathe and have never had good luck getting oil into them. Seems like oil goes nowhere (fluid l...
