Re: Valve gear parts for big boy

From our club secretary Craig Close concerning Steve McDonald. "CALS member Mike Looney has called me to inform me that Steve MacDonald is in the hospital. He has been at the University of Maryland Medical center in Baltimore for several weeks, undergoing several operations. For those who do not kno...

Re: Valve gear parts for big boy

I inquired of our club secretary(Chesapeake & Allegheny Live Steamers} if he had any updates. His response "He made it to the annual meeting (June 2018). I guess it was his daughter who came with him. He has limited use of one arm. That is the only ‘good’ condition. His overall condition has not rea...

Re: Clishay Engine Driven Water Pump

I am using 1/4" ram. I think that I am also loosing too much suction and force thru the packing nut. I am now experimenting with using an o-ring on the ram and/or for packing. Hand tested it and it seems to work better. I will install back on the engine next week and report back. My boiler is also s...

Has anyone made modifications to the engine driven water pump to improve efficiency and decrease water leakage on the ram?

I have a Maxitrak Ruby that I have had problems with and I hope that these ideas can help solve the timing issues. I have also just acquired a GER Y74/LNER Y4 0-4-0 and without loading the wheels it ru...

Re: Locomotive Roller Test Stand

The main reason for asking is the problem of valve timing. This is a Maxitrak locomotive that i have running smoothly in reverse but is terrible forward. Using a roller stand should help get the timing right. Valve gear is Marshall

Locomotive Roller Test Stand

I am looking to build a simple roller test stand for 0-4-0 1" gauge locomotives. I have done a search with a few pictures showing up. They do not seem to be complicated devices but i was wondering how some of you have done it and what not to do. Any pictures or suggestions are welcome. Thanks, Bill

Re: Cole's Worthington pup question?

Dianne,

I also am getting into building the Cole's pump and would also like an AutoCAD set when you are finished. I have AutoCAD so an elcetronic copy will be OK if you are sharing your work.
