...old age has reduced my grip to just sufficient for a glass of wine.
The glasses are too delicate. I go for a rocks glass with Kentucky's finest.

Dropped my 4-jaw chuck; don't worry, the bed wasn't damaged.
My little finger cushioned the impact.

It's the same story with lead here in the EU; tin/lead plumbing solder disappeared from the shelves 15-20 years ago, replaced by 'silver' solder.

I think it sounds like ss is a safe bet. Also, I have found a greater variety of screw lengths in ss compared to brass. Thanks.

Re: How easy to add USB to a 1993 hass lathe?

A DB25 connector is not necessarily a parallel port. DB25 is the correct connector for RS232. The DE9 serial port connectors found on pcs are non-standard (though nearly universal). RS422 also uses DB25 connectors. (I'm abusing the standards and ignoring some details) Exactly. The DE9 serial ports ...

Re: Good practice question

No-one has mentioned follower rests, yet. I don't have one so I can't say yay or nay. I'm in the opposite situation: I have a follower, but no steady. So maybe in a situation like the one that prompted my question, a follower could be sufficient? Not really an alternate solution, as a follower does...
