Miller three phase welder questions

Craig's list is always a bad idea .... So I bought a Miller Sr 150-32 three phase tig welder today , I gave $20 for it . It's not a big machine @ 150 amps and it is constant currant dc only . and it does have a high frequency start I am pretty sure my 15 hp phase converter is plenty big enough to po...

Re: Self centering vise

So not really expecting much I went ahead and ordered a vise from grizzly. It's $218 with shipping, so if it doesn't suit my needs for making molds I'm not out a fortune. If nothing else it'll make a pretty dang good drill press vise. I have a couple ideas on a jaw fixture to hold the mold halves. O...

Re: Machinists Level

Well you sure can't see much .
But in the second picture I can see shiny along with what's either patina or rust .
So someone has either done some polishing or sanding or something .
I can't see any of that being good for a precision level ... so project it must be .

Re: Machinists Level

I'm sure it could be saved with some work , but I'd say at this point it is a project and not a precision tool .

Re: Self centering vise

Spro Think of a mold cherry as a form tool , in this case it is the size and shape of a bullet and it will have flutes like an endmill so it can cut . There are a few ways to make bullet molds , you can use a lathe and bore the cavity But it is a very precise and tedious operation , and of course yo...

Re: Self centering vise

Bullet molds are made with a cherry on a mill ... unless you have a very precise cnc mill.

You fixture the mold halves to the vice jaws and close them on the cherry to cut the mold cavity

Self centering vise

I haven't bought any tools for awhile and it's time . So I have it in mind to buy a self centering vise , there's no way I can afford a nice Kurt or even one of the nicer made Taiwan made vices . But I can afford one like the grizzly h7576. It's a 4 inch vice . Size wise it suits my needs and it fit...

Re: Spin Grinding Wheel Before Starting

Admittedly I know very little about surface grinding , but I kind of fail to see how spinning the wheel by hand would help anything at all when it comes to start up . My grinder has a 3 hp three phase motor . When you hit the power button it is up to speed about as fast as you can blink your eyes . ...

Re: 40th anniversary of the blizzard of ’78

I was just a little kid , but I remember having to go up on the barn roofs to shovel the snow off them , not a real fond memory as I also remember getting beaten black and blue after I fell off the roof twice and didn't want to try for a third time .

Re: Looking to buy a new Lathe need some advice.

I have a grizzly g0602 . I've used the snot out if for just over 4 years now . I can honestly say it is something that I would buy again . It has been a good solid durable machine that is more then reasonably accurate . Being a light bench top machine it does have some issues with how rigid it is. A...

Re: Band saw blades

The last bandsaw blade I bought well over two years ago from enco because it was on sale for $6 It is a disston ( spelling? ) , I've used and abused the carp out of it . I won't lie and say it still cuts like new , but it still cuts very very good , it still cuts better then the starret blade it rep...

Thank you

I can see where that thing would be worth it's weight in gold the few times a person did need it .
