Re: My Southern Ms4 Tender Project

First of all, amazing job on this tender! It is refreshing to see this high level of craftsmanship, can't say enough good things. Second, I'm really happy somebody is tackling an Ms-4. These were very well built machines, big fan. Will the one you're building have the elesco feed water heater? Hard ...

Re: 4-4-0 American locomotive rod design

Hello everyone, For many years I have been puzzled over the rod design of the 4-4-0 locomotives. I have noticed that the main rods are inboard of the side rods VS the other way around of all other steam designs. Obviously the rod location would have motion conflicts with most other wheel arrangemen...

Re: Allen Models 2-8-0

Moron: The mikado drive wheels are 6" diameter. I shrunk steel tires on my drive wheels, just because it could be done. I expect this 2-8-2 to have excellent traction due to the tires, the weight, and the number of drivers. I did not mean to hijack this Allen Consolidation thread. My apologies to t...

Re: Allen Models 2-8-0

The 90-ton Mikado is still up for sale the last time I checked 2 weeks ago on the RR Warehouse website. Hmmm. The price makes it an excellent purchase deal for some one interested in doing such a business. The existing stock of castings and parts alone would be worth the price, and their quality ha...

Re: Allen Models 2-8-0

I always recommend getting all the castings you want for the build for a couple reasons, first they will not be any cheaper in the future and may very well escalate in cost, second is you can't predict how long the supplier will be in business. This is by no means any reflection on the current owne...

Re: Allen Models 2-8-0

The Consolidation is not as common as the Mogul but it's a great engine, very powerful due to the smaller diameter drivers and still on the 2" cylinder bore. With the 8" boiler to power that it really pulls like a monster. Was really impressed with Gene's original model when I ran it a few months a...

Allen Models 2-8-0

Just order the first 2 sections to the Allen models 2-8-0. Just wanted to put in a good word for Steve Alley who has been very friendly and helpful. The castings/parts are quality and they arrived very quickly. I'm a happy customer. Looking forward to building this over time. Anybody else out there ...
