Re: Clishay fireing

I remember being at a Mid South meet in the 90s and there were two coal fired clishays. One was the "gold bug" don't remember what the other looked like. This doesn't help much, but it certainly seems to have been done.

Re: Future of Superscale Locomotive

It is rather sad to see such great work and craftsmanship be lost but also agree that most of the "needs" are now met by other suppliers. A similar fate to the old East Coast locomotive works castings that made a NYC 4-6-4, B&M 4-8-2 and a Sou 4-6-2. What happened to all the railroad warehouse stuff...

Re: Future of Superscale Locomotive

Agreed. The cost to update the line would be huge not even including the purchase price.

Just need some muffled safety valves from a supplier!

Re: Equalizing process and "faking-it-out"

That setup doesn't look like it would truly equalize.

Re: Walshart valve gear on a rgs 20

Does your #12 have an extended smokebox or is it to RGS 20 drawings?

building a cast loco bed on a 7.5 gauge super power locomotive would be massively challenging.

Re: Building the Frisco 1522

Great to see progress. Did you use RRSC mikado drawings as a starting point then stretch them ? Also just curious why put the thrust bearings on the inboard side of the journal boxes, and not between the pilot wheel backs and outside edge of journal box? Thanks!

John,

That's impressive! Never seen one in 7.5 gauge though.

Re: EARLY 4-6-6-4 CHALLENGER. FRAME

Most modern locomotives had a cast frame. No model i've seen has ever had a cast frame regardless of gauge. Plenty of people build super power 4-8-4s etc with waterjet or laser side frames. Don't choose a prototype to model based on if it had a cast frame or not.
