Edge finding for small mills and setting 0,0,0

Looking at this article, it seems possible to make a 1/8 edge finder. http://www.sherline.com/pages/tips/tip29.htm So you grind some material out of an old drill bit or cutter and then listen for it wrapping against the part as you move it over. My confusion is ... how do you know, when you hear the...

https vs. http!

Recently, some browsers (chrome for sure) started reporting "not secure" for websites using http. (No encryption on the connection) This was the standard way of operating for many years. For your home and trusted connections, this is likely not a problem either. If you happen to visit the chaski mac...

https enabled

Some of you may have noticed the message "not secure" in the URL bar, most likely on chrome. We have now enabled https on the server! https://www.chaski.org If you are connecting from your house, this probably is not too big a deal. I do however recommend you use the secure url if you happen to be l...

Re: Appreciation

I appreciate the good thoughts! Keeping chaski going is definitely a team effort...I could not do it alone. Without Harold and Marty, I know we could not have lasted this long. I appreciate all the volunteer moderators too! I sure also appreciate the willingness of the members to support this operat...

Re: Clay molds for aluminum casting?

I have not thought of core material. The only success I have had is with kinetic sand, but it gets a little pricey. It does leave a pattern..but not too bad. Could not find an image of the original casting, but here it is cleaned up a bit. Starting to think of spring and trying again. Our last poor ...

Clay molds for aluminum casting?

Suppose you made a mold from clay and fired it in a kiln...would you be able to successfully pour aluminum into it, or would the kiln firing deform the mold?
(Or are there other problems I am not even thinking of?)
Thank you,
MIke

Re: Unable to edit notifications

Interestingly enough I was able to reproduce it, but then I was successful. Suggest trying this. As you did before: * go to User Control Panel->Edit Notification Options. * Select the notifications you want deleted. * hit submit When you see the screen that your preferences have been updated...wait ...

Kool Mist and cooling systems

My little milling machines are getting dangerously close to a useful state! Not wanting to finish too quickly I would like to learn a bit about no cooling, mist cooling, flood cooling. The guys in the shop are adamant about using anything that smells...I guess that can get you kicked out! :D Flood c...
