When you test your brakes on pressurized air, the air you put into the brake lines remains a contstant temperature and pressure. As you know, when steam cools it contracts (condenses). Although I am not a fan of British trains, the "Great Train Robbery" by Michael Crichton with actor Sean Connery has some great vintage steam train footage. Some very exciting shots from the tender looking down on the footplate of the locomotive while zipping along the track

I payed 54 cents per plastic tie. full sized 2" x 2"x 15". My ties are brown. I use 3 or 4 ties per foot.

Getting access to and using the machine is the best way to learn. (I learned that way too).
