Re: OPENING A CAN OF WORMS

This is probably getting a little off topic, but this thread involves a lot of discussion about wheel and track standards but I rarely ever hear any discussion about truck standards. In evaluating derail problems on several occasions, I came to the conclusion that the problem did not lie with the wh...

Re: New Guy: Where do I start?

The take away here is to choose what you love and get all the help you can get. Karl You make two good points in the above statement Karl. I made my first pattern out of a solid piece of uneven grained pine. It soon warped very nicely into a potato chip. But I got all the help I could get and charg...

Re: Baldwin Locomotive & Baldwin Magazines

As far as I know the collection is complete. It also includes the 1948 Index. Most of the individual mags are in excellent condition. I did find one or two from the late 30s or 40s that are complete but are a little rough. The 1st bound volume has some issues in which the cotton thread used to bind ...

Do you only have the one pair? I have a friend who is looking to do an inexpensive project with a couple of cars.

Re: Berkshire Construction Photos

Chris: Like Dave, 3/32" pop rivets were used for the tell-tale stays. They are McMaster-Carr #97519A003. They are specified as .198 diameter but come out smaller than that, around .165, which is prefect because the prototype had 1' diameter stays with 1-1/4" major diameter threads on the ends which,...

Re: Drivers/frame/cylinders suitable for mod/use on N&W J 4-

The cylinder block which I offer for the Berkshire is designed for a 4-1/4" stroke. It has the rear main cylinder head cast on in accordance with the prototype NKP Berkshire. If the J has the "long lap" version of the Baker valve gear, perhaps you can use my valve gear internal parts; bell crank, ra...

Re: Berkshire Construction Photos

This is the latest 1-1/2” scale NKP Berkshire being tested at the Maricopa Live Steamers in Phoenix over the last couple of days. It belongs to Larry Kirchner (in the photos) of Baltimore, MD and will be shipped there as soon as the tender is finished (lettering, etc.). Larry rode the real 759 as a ...

Re: 1.5" Scale 6 Wheel Buckeye Tender Truck Castings

Richard: Thank you for your nice comments. The attached photo shows the completed truck. I’m only selling three complete sets of these castings. Additionally, I have some miscellaneous tender truck castings but I would have to run more castings to make complete sets. I could collect orders and then ...
