Re: Got it apart, now what to make out of it.

I can't tell from the pictures. If the markings start at 0.000 and then read larger as it is opened, like a normal micrometer, a depth gauge will be opposite reading. That will drive you nuts and leave you with the chance of miscalculating the actual depth. Pete :-) It's difficult enough to change ...

Re: easy carbide insert ID

I find the entire subject of insert denomination the most irrational example of industrial standardization. Finding the insert you want, shape, hole diameter, positive/negative, breaker, ground or not etc. requires hours of research across several vendors sites. :-) Stick to HSS tooling and grind y...

Re: Radius of curvature

I thought RR curves were laid out as hyperbolas to avoid the sharp transition to centripetal force at the start of a circular segment. If so
"radius" has no meaning here. ????

Re: Broken end mill. Ouch

I just had one of those on Thur. A brand new 7/16" one from Enco. got out the old one from the set of HF and did the rest of the job. :-)
It snapped just as the pix in post 1.

38 2/5 " or 19 1/5" per space. That would be 5 per 8 ft.
Wonder where that would be used?

Re: Me and my son

I know the problem well. I don't have too many metal working machines/tools (just some good measuring tools and cutters. I get to use the schools machines) but do have a lot of woodworking machines/tools that won't have a good home when I'm gone. My only son-in-law already has an adequate collection...

Once youve done it a few times and shown/helped a few hundred high school kids over a period of
14 years do it, it's a piece of cake. :-)
