Acme taps...I learned something today.....

We had to make some acme thread nuts today, Thay were 1 1/4 5 tpi by 4 inch longin cast iron. As the tap took 2 weeks to get and cost was almost $200.00 I didnt want to hurt it so I put a .100 round nose top notch insert in the boring bar and roughed the thread to about .060 deep (full depth is .100...

How big are the fish there if you need a fishing reel with hydraulic relief? we dont need any help landing the fish in Montana.........5 lbs is about as big as thay come here......Phil in Mt

Almost any alloy steel will work well 4130 4140 4150 4340 1144 1065 8620 ,If you need to weld 4140 preheat to 800f and weld away or make a srink fit to your shaft an call it good. You can not weld 1144 so dont try. You could even use 4140 for the hammer end and 1028 for the bearing end. No sense buy...

I have been tring to find a machinest for 2 years here in montana with no luck, It is hard to hire a repair job shop type of machinest. THe men trained in cnc dont help us out much, what we need are the 1950S type that can run every machine in the shop, weld, and tear apart or put toghether anything...

The shaper wieght is 1000 lbs, takes a 3x4 footprint if you redo the motor(the motor is 3 phase but any 1 1/2 hp motor will work ) I will take pic of it and email them to any one that wants to look. I dont know how to load pics to a web server. I will load free we have big forklifts...Phil in mt

The shaper should not end up In the scrap pile, but I dont have any need for it as I have two late model ones now and there is no room in any of our buildings to sav...

Most tapors for locking are less than 1 inch per foot anything more will not lock and hold....Phil in Mt
