I hate to be the one to tell you .....but the lathe has almost a neg value...One of that age with all the missing parts and a tail stock would be hard pressed to bring $200.00 . If you shop around you will find a better one..Phil in Mt

If you engauge the treading box and half nut in every thread pos and see how far the carriage moves for one turn of the spindle it will give you the lead, like wise do the same in feed. Back when slick willy was in the whitehouse the dod sold a lot of machinery and I bought lots of it, but Fortlewis , Wash. would recieve alot and store it outside with no tarps or anything to stop the rust. And then it would take a year of red tape before thay would sell the machinery. I bought some...

Nice jig, In the old days we would cut a 30 degree knotch in the ram of the tail stock (the 30 d was for setting your threading bit) and ingrave a center line but you had to bring the tail stock to your tool ...Phil in Mt

Most motors to use on a lathe should be 90 to 240 dc. A 24 volt motor would need over 40 amps to make 1hp . The drive for that type of motor would be hard to find cheep...Phil in Mt

In a way we can blame ourselfs, The first thing we do is seek out the cheapest price on what ever we need, so the importers buy the cheapest. Even the stuff made in china could be good even real good if the importers would bring it over, thay choose to import the junk because there profit is better....

Not so fast.....Dont give up on D C motors, thay are old school, but thay have low end power that a vfd will never have. You will need a 1 to 1 1/2 hp but you should find one cheap on ebay or the local scrap yard. The control can also be found on ebay or if you have a little help you could build it ...

You are right, the thing that makes my blood boil is every thing we buy has some sort of defect. I gess that I raise the white flag to fast and fix it my self. and with the venders out there it eats a lot of time...for fun try to get a refund or adjestment from ups for being late or braking somethin...
