I dont know about the little ones but I use 40 wt oil in our 36 inch and the 16 inch for the last 20 years and thay show litte wear...Phil in Mt

There is a lot to modify. a slotter has a deep throat, rot. table ect and the base is very heavy...I have two, one in my home shop and one at work...the home machinehits over 6000lbs for a 6 inch stroke, the machine at work hits over 10,000lbs for a 12 inch stroke. Thay need all the mass to be ridge...

At times I have to cut wood in a mill, the biggest thing is clean up afterwards the wood will hold the coolent and rust the mill. There is a lot of spaces for sawdust to get into the lathe gear boxes and carriage..I would not think it would be worth the clean up is you us wood a lot...Phil in Mt

Thay run ads in the ironman (a monthly steam mag.)The trick was to get free fright...the way it works a man in pa has a friend in minn, the man in minn has a friend in nd and the man in nd is a friend of mine ....total time 8 mo. but free also there are the best for old steam parts and thay have all...

Yes i do understand that he paid the price and got less than it should be, but it is a majior fight to talk to a real person to get the part replaced, plus you have to wait for it to come back and pay the shipping( at best one way.)..here in montana I would have to wait over 2 weeks before it would ...

Why not true the center hole by rot milling it to the next size, you can do the od the same way...a lot less work than paying ups and boxing it up and waiting...Phil in mt

The Cattail Foundry cast a lot of parts for my 1913 case 60 hp , all of the castings were a joy to machine and it was all very stable., and on size.. ..Phil in mt

To make a smooth flat surface, grind a round nose tool with a 5 degree relief, mount as close to the tool post as possible remove .005 to .010 with the slowest feed and 40 - 50 strokes per min.....if the clapper has a bounce to it oil the sides with heavy oil...have fun.but keep track of your finger...

In our shop we have a oven, we just set the temp for 250 d f and let it cook for a hour or so and thay will scrap of real easy...Phil in mt
