(2) 1" Scale 4-8-2 projects for sale.

Hi everyone, I'm selling my (2) 1" Scale 4-8-2 projects. I have decided that I need to focus on other activities and these two are the projects that need to go. This is nothing more than a 1" Scale pacific, extended with an additional axle. What you see in the photos is what I have available for sal...

Re: First steam locomotive build-3/4" scale Raritan

Do you need 4 inch copper piping for the boiler? I have not purchased any of the copper for the boiler. The fact that you guys are both asking makes me think that it is as hard to buy as toilet paper right now. Should I be concerned? No -- It can be obtained in the states and in the UK. But if Bill...

Re: Crosshead Guide Material

Probably work ok. For the Allen cylinders that I'm machining at present, I picked up some 4140 prehardened material. Already ground to size. I think that'll hold up OK. If you're interested in that route, check out McMaster #8892K47. I haven't tried machining it yet but hopefully will be able to in ...

Re: Paint help

At the WF&P, I have had good results with engine block paint as well as rustoleum. Yes, it does flake off... If the surface is not well prepared. When I prepare surfaces for paint, I like to use a flap wheel on a grinder, or a 2" roloc disc on a 90 deg die grinder. I grind until the mill finish is g...

Re: 3/4" scale rolling stock and trucks

Of course you would still need a way to machine up a bunch of wheels but if there is a will there is a way... I recall someone experimenting with plastic trucks and wheels for non-load bearing service in 3/4"... I think it may have been on Chaski. With the shutdown coming, I think this is a great t...

Re: 3/4" scale rolling stock and trucks

Just wondering, who all here has built or owns any 3/4" rolling stock or knows of available trucks other than those offered from Tanski or Yankee shop/ friends?? the search male it near impossible to find anything as it does not recognise 3/4" as a keyword. Is there anything in particular you are l...

Re: First steam locomotive build-3/4" scale Raritan

Great progress! Turning wheels is probably one of my favorite tasks... Especially in Cast Iron. Turning 15" diameter steel tire-d drivers, not so much, but I have done it anyway....

Re: Slide Valve Cylinder Castings

Did you incorporate machining allowance? Given your ports being 5/16", I would say you would probably want 3/16" wide ports, as cast... Then for teh exhaust port, 3/8" as cast... So your cast spacing should be 7/16" between ports... It also looks like your cores may have broken, due to the odd shape...

Re: K & S Metals of Chicago

That's unfortunate. Wonder if that's why Hobby Lobby was clearing out a bunch of their product this past summer. I bought 100 packages of various materials for 25c apiece.... Bummer.
