when cutting a dovetail for a ft.sight do you use a smaller dovetail cutterand sneak up on it or are the cutters made for the sights being cut for?

I have a barrel I want to make shorter,it has a 9/16 thread breech plug now but I want to make it 5/8 to use on a Thompson,has anyone did this?

slowed the feed and put radius on tool and got a dood finish,thanks

Hey fellows cutting down a back plate to mount four jaw chuck to my heavy 10,having a hard time getting a good finish ,hows the best way or shape to grind tool?

He fellows,I have a Southbend 10 with 2 1/4 -8 spindle thread,I bought a 4jaw chuck from a friend with 1 1/2 dia. thread,my question is should I try to bore and thread or buy a back plate with right thread?
