On a similar note, I believe that Norfolk and Western Y3 (Original 2-8-8-2 USRA design) was also bar type frame. Later designs Y4-y6 were cast locomotive beds.

One idea I cooked up but have yet to try is to toss the Allen Nozzle and make a nozzle with 45 degree connections (or appropriate angle) to receive compressesion fittings between it and cylinder. Ray, Yes, absolutely, if you throw enough pressure against you brake cylinder (air or steam) you will lock it up and slide. Truthfully its more operator error than anything else. And yes air is much more forgiving than steam since steam is not regulated and has to be feathered in. My point is if you...
