OT metric threads

I just learned a cool trick we have a reasonably new Knuth lathe which cuts metric but you can't open the half nuts once started, cut, retract tool, reverse, repeat, when doing internal threads and you're checking thread fit it sucks when the test piece is 10" long, so the trick is reverse to clear ...

Re: How to calculate how many tons a press is?

That looks like a sliding key clutch, "BE VERY CAREFUL WITH IT" they are known to slip, the wedge action gets a little worn, the key gets a little worn then its just waiting to engage by itself , in a perfect world the 2 surfaces would be at 90° but when we were required to fix a press we ground the...

Re: Train Club Souvenir - Custom Water Bottle

I looked at there site which is not very informative, you have to search for things, the bottle is way to big , if it had a carrying strap it might be a little easier to handle but I still don't think I'd buy one $28.00 for a souvenir that you put down and some one walks off with.

Re: Removing a boiler fitting

If it is brass find a piece of round stock that fits snugly in the the bore then clamp on with a good pair of Vise Grips the ones with curved jaws then just start leaning on it and tap/beat on the end of the rod for some shock effect.

Re: Electric motor Horsepower advice for Steeplcab loco

I'm finding it very hard to see where you get 5 or 6 ton of weight, but back to your ? I'm thinking that you probably want something like golf cart motor, then gearit for 7 or 8 MPH. JMHO take it for what it's worth.

Semi OT acme tap

After bidding and getting some stuff at the Cabin Fever Expo looking thru the stuff found an acme tap .520" - 12 left hand I wish it was a common thread like 10 or 20, 12= .083333"per turn but maybe I'll find a use for it LOL.

Re: Trav-a -dial

Golfpin they are a mechanical measuring device that uses knurled wheel that has a radius machined on it's contact surface, calibration means tipping the head to use a different radius on the drive wheel which changes the distance read. They are the poor mans read out.

Re: Shape-Rite shaper

I'll jump in here the lathe tool holder has the tool bit at an angle, so if it digs in it'll only dig deeper shaper holder has bit vertical and tends to lift when it wants to dig in, JM$.02W .

Re: Wanted: 1" scale Bell

Tom when you say 1" is that scale or the diameter, some rough dimensions would help, I'm getting ready to turn a wooden pattern for a Cagney replica bell approx. 4 1/2" dia. X 6" tall , found a foundry that does bell bronze and not that much $ .

Re: stock size for 4-40 thread

To clear up some of the corn fusion number sizes start at .060" each number going up adds .013" so a 10 thread is .013 X 10 = .130 + .060 = .190 and the same going down just subtract.
