Re: Mauser actions

Kuhnhausen said that he sent samples out for metallurgical analysis, and most old Mauser actions were 1025 or 1030 steel, shallow case hardened. That's one step up from chicken-wire grade steel, and a long, long way below 4140. External hardness testing of Mauser recievers is an exercise in futilit...

Re: carburator bowl vent

It acted like it had slipped time(sheared key). I'd cleaned the carb and reset float different ways. It would run fine and sta...

Re: Cost effective machining??

Looks like "alclad" which is generic term for an Alcoa Aluminum process whereby the surface is coated with pure as possible aluminum as a corrosion resistant treatment.

Don't know why they would do it for a chassis though.

Re: Low usage car

Tires are also at issue with low use vehicles. Trailer tires and car/truck tires are formulated differently. But all tires must roll and bear weight in order to stay pliable otherwise the compounds seperate and you get delamination leading to blow outs. Read this in Consumer Reports long ago during ...

Re: Weird vibration/resonance in top head,Bridgeport step pu

Yeah, well , careful with those. Put the earpieces just under the earhole at first. I guess I don't have a hole in my head for it didn't blast my hat off. Touch the probe first and work up to hearing it. Or a wooden dowel of appropriate lenght to keep your hair from moving parts. Don't stick it in ...

Re: A salute to the best tool in my arsenal !!!!

ZipSnipe said Wood for some reason always seems to be a a painful splinter compared to glass and metal. Sometimes you can't even feel a glass splinter until days later. All woods contain [tannin or tannic acid] some more than others. It is a pheno-whatchamacallit and irritant. Which causes the splin...

Re: Never enough time

Thanks Ken. I got a Direct deposit from SSI today, so I am short but bumping along. (whoo-Hoo!). That's good news for sure. Amazing isn't it. You work hard and do your best your whole life while paying into Mandatory Gubermint Programs. As soon as something happens and you require the benefits of s...
