Ranting again....
A recent incident comes to mind..An individual had a family failing that wound up with minor body contact made..The ' battered' asked for charges to be filed and the assailant was escorted to HQ for the night..In the process, because words were used and fingers pointed, a 40 year collection of arms ...

Re: When putting the finish on a wooden pattern
Sealing the surface to a pattern is critical, as most sands are Wet with water , oil or both and a barrier is needed to keep the wood from absorbing and changing shape and dimension..Same goes for other pattern media.. The only NAKED patterns I have are aluminum production matchplates... You dont wa...

Re: Guesstimate for a casting
This is the level of courage that makes and breaks companies... If the original maker is still in business, and they are not too large or use sub contractors.... well you know.. An engine block is not a simple casting.. go to someplace that does in -kind work, and ask about a simple test run.. It wi...

Good castings and raw metals
I have just finished reading the majority of FRANKG's posts to his site and am really impressed with the effort put forward.. The real question in my mind is ... If you are going to put forward the effort, why not insure your success with following the road of the basics that have been worked out lo...

Re: Older Arc machine convert to TIG

Re: Vacuum pump from throwaway compressors?
Any fridge or AC unit that is still working (pumping ) is a good candidate. One recently made was converted by drilling a TINY hole in the top of the hermetic case to relieve leak pressure and screwiing the blobby thing to a piece of plywood with rubber feet and adding a houshold lite switch for the...

Welding aluminum poles
I have an option of repairing breakaway poles by putting new bases on them. it is very thin material and the bases are cast material so they will decompose when hit by a car. Is there any thing special about this socketed type welding I should know? Plan on using MIG but also have tig capability.......

Welding cooler tank.
Not to be a smarty, but I noticed that my Bernard cooler has a real nice pressed stainless tank. Some looking proved it was a restaurant steam table tray. Since mine is only a coupla inches deep, I am considering buying a deeper tray to increase the capacity. The trays come in limited sizes but are ...

Re: A Good Basic Rod
Being a backyard and junky- painted -over-the-rust- but- fix-it -anyway- kinna guy, I used an AC crapsman buzzer for many years...Now fast forward, after using and finally buying a 300 amp DC machine I can tell you that 7014 ac rod is the winner for small projects and ease of use hands down....Local...

Re: MIG welding helmet advice
Yo, spend the dough and get a hobby type variable shade helmet.. It is a must for mig and tig work where touch in at the right spot is the diference between good work and chicken spit. A jackson is a good choice but pricey for me, so I am trying to knock one of the cheeper models out of ebay.. They ...
