Re: Building the Southern Railway PS-4 Frame

No hi-jack intended with the attached pic, I'm just a show me guy rather than tell me. This is not a Hi-Jack This is exactly what I need. It can become frustrating on a forum when you make an input and get no feedback. You just continue down the path right or wrong. As you say it is one thing to bu...

Building the Southern Railway PS-4 Frame

For the last year or so I have been involved with members in what started as a discussion on the PS-4 Pacifics used by the Southern Railway. (Not the Southern Railroad as I was enlightened early on) Having started a LE American that my heart was not really in, I have always really wanted to build a ...

Re: BRIDGEPORT SERIES 1 "J" HEAD MILLING MACHINE

Tramed with a dial indicator today and ran a fly cutter across some brass and steal blocks to see how it cut.

I see you are in my neighborhood as I am in Lester Alabama just south of you.

Are you going to the Meet at Mid South this month?

Re: BRIDGEPORT SERIES 1 "J" HEAD MILLING MACHINE

Found a few items that needed quick repair. One was that the spindle became very hot very quick when running. Turned out the nose piece set screw was really cranked down. Got out the book and readjusted everything and it cooled right down. Mounted the vice that came with it to cut on a piece of scra...

Table is on, Oneshot oiler cleaned and back on, Testing the oiler over the next few days to ensure all the lines are clear and getting oil to the right places, Wiring run, Tested motor and head (needs lube and have to figure out if the motor is turning the right direction) Odds and ends left and a c...

Re: BRIDGEPORT SERIES 1 "J" HEAD MILLING MACHINE

The scraping class is off until some details are worked out over in Huntsville. More later. In the mean time tonight I put the sadle back in place and rigged the lead screw. Bottom line until I get the knee scraped and the saddle/table reground I will be making do with the wear I have. I placed a th...

Re: Index Model 40H Vert. Mill for sale.

Hello Cary

Just a quick question. Are you the person I met at the LALS meet in the summer? I am Charlie Pipes and I believe we talked about the mill at the time.

Re: Southern Railroad PS-4 Pacific Design Discussion

Printing the paper copies makes it easeier for me to see my mistakes and also gives light to what some people claim to be the high cost of plan sets from the different suppliers.

At 2.50 to 5.00 per print at a print shop today the cost can add up very quickly for a detailed set of drawing.

Re: Southern Railroad PS-4 Pacific Design Discussion

To have your work survive, get it printed. I have really taken this to heart. I can remember saving data to a "Flopy Disk" but don't know how you would read one today. I am drawing in AutoCAD 2002 (already a dinosaur) and converting to PDF which currently can be printed at the local print...

Sending PM. One question. Was this engine or one like it at the LALS run back in the Summer?
