Re: Challenging moments

Remember changing countries is a big difference to moving states or provinces. If I had moved to the USA or the Uk I would have had to do the same thing a boiler built in a different country and not built to the local code??? . One thing about the Australian model boiler code it is so overkill it wo...

Challenging moments

Just thought this was a little unusual a challenger in pieces had to dismantle for the Canadian boiler inspection . This a big step so I can really finish things off because I was waiting for the boiler certification Covid really screwed things up The boiler was built to the Australian boiler code o...

Re: RV Anti freeze for storage

I see that no one has outright said don't use it so I think most people are the same view as me not really sure weather it is good or bad idea I think I would only use maybe in small aux lines to compressors etc if you are concerned with freezing and you cant remove all the moisture . But there are ...

Re: Westinghouse compressor lubricator info

It has been awhile but the Lubricators were made , I got a Westinghouse users manual from 1947 and used the dimensional info they had which was pretty good . There was an interesting item I found in the manual , someone had written notes on a piece of paper from 1948 with the exact date on it pretty...

Re: Steam railroading to return to Alaska!

A couple of pics from the UK , they did say that some of the original engineering had some issues but they were never meant to last that long from what I've read about these engines .
They really look out of place in the UK , you take a double look when you first see them .

Re: Tapping Boiler shell directly

FYI - this is from the Australian model steel boiler code -

Tapped holes for bolted or studded connections shall have sufficient depth to allow a minimum length of threaded engagement equal to the major thread diameter - this would be for smaller taper threads as well I'm guessing .

Re: Westinghouse Pump Lubrication

I have done the same thing as Dan . This is a little difficult but it is a option and more suits compressors towards the front of an engine - Tom Miller had the common mechanical ratchet type pumps for lubrication but with a twist , he made little air operated cylinders to drive the pumps . When the...
